Steve began growing native plants for ecological restoration as well as implementing field revegetation in 1994 at Castle Mountain Mine in the East Mojave Desert of California. He has worked for an assortment of environmental companies such as Bitterroot Restoration, Native Resources International and RECON Environmental, Inc. and has managed restoration projects in California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas. Steve has been the manager of the Gila Native Plant Nursery for the Gila Watershed Partnership in Safford, Arizona for three years and prior to that he co-owned the native plant Nursery Signature Botanica LLC, with his wife Julie Plath, in Morristown, Arizona. He has grown plant material for assorted federal, state and county agencies as well as tribal communities and other conservation organizations.
